Simple joys

Sometimes we rush through the things in life that we often overlook the simplest things that could bring a smile to our faces.

Lucky me, cause in my profession, there are many many many opportunities for me to smile like an idiot or melt like snow under the sun. With children, each encounter can be a precious exchange or a wreck of nerves, and most of the time, it's I who determine what the encounter would be like.

So today, I record down the simple hugs and goodbyes of the kids from the preschool I taught at, particularly one that said "next time you come my house okay?". Teachers of young children have to many times imagine and interpret what our kids say to us, but I'm sure we all agree that that was a remark made out of love and not out of fear. For which, I'm thankful for.

The show I recently watched had a younger doctor asking a senior doctor what made a good doctor. The response really left a very deep impression. "A good doctor is one who would think if he's a good doctor." I believe a good teacher will also be one who would always be asking him or herself what makes a good teacher and how to become one. Being a good teacher is not a goal, but a process, and I truly see value in what I do, not just for the kids, but for myself. To all the teachers I know in my life, never give up on doing what you do, at the end of the day, no matter how tough the going gets, it will always be worthwhile. (:
