The man with the tin cans

I was running after the bus today and in my hurry to get onto the bus,
I almost didn't notice this man who was holding many bags in his hands waiting to get onto the bus after everyone else did..
Didn't know what those big bags were till I heard the clangs when he squeezed through the opening at the entrance. He didn't sit as he had too many things with him, his stuff dropped a couple of times and he had to bend down to pick them up, making the clang sounds audible again..
I watched as his thin and frail body swayed with the movement of the bus, almost seeming like he would topple over any time..
I watched as the people around him showed looks of disgust or moved away..
I watched and thought to myself how unfair life could be, I was holding bags of shopping while he was holding bags of a day of hard work, which would pay him less than what I've spent today..
I thank God for the life I have, and ask for his forgiveness, for the times I've compared what my bags of shopping to those who carried Chanel, Gucci or other branded bags of shopping..

"Making comparisons can spoil your happiness"

Don't know why, but this made me really emotional, and reminded me of the need to be contented. Because contentment, and the knowing that you have all that you need, is happiness..

I whispered a little prayer for that man, that his needs be met, and he finds contentment and joy in having enough.. He earned my respect for doing his best even though life's tough, he has the most reasons to give up, but he doesn't.. Thank you for the wonderful lesson you've taught me today (:
