"Get up! Pick up your mat and walk."

'Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for a feast of the Jews. Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colomnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie- the bling, the lame, the paralyzed. Oe who was there had been an invalid for thrity eight years. When Jesus saw him lyint there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, "
Do you want to get well?"
"Sir," the invalid replied, "I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred, while im trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me." Then Jesus said to him, "
Get up! Pick up your mat and walk." At once the man was cured,
he picked up his mat and walked.' John 5:1-9
From the bible, i've always looked at and marvelled at God's miracles, in this case his healing power. But in Max Lucado's book, Cast of Character, I was led to look at the man who was paralyzed for the past 38 years of his life.
When Jesus told him to get up, pick his mat up and walk. He did not doubt and he stood up, pick up his mat and was healed! I wish I could do that, I wish I could always take Jesus at his word, with faith and trust. Because when Jesus says something, it happens. What are we paralyzed by that causes us not to be able to do what God says. Why are we at times, unwilling to be healed. And although Jesus said, "Get up!", we stubbornly refuse his healing.
When Jesus tells us to stand, let's stand.
When He says we're forgiven, let's unload the guilt.
When He says we're valuable, let's believe him.
When he says we're eternal, let's bury our fear.
When he says we're provided for, let's stop worrying.
When he says, "Stand up," lets do it.
"Get up! Pick up your mat and walk."
