With the three year olds

Conversations with the three year olds are the most interesting sometimes (definitely one of the many reasons I love what I do)

Today's lesson was about creating a room with striped walls and painting a silhouette of the objects in the room. While the children were painting, the teacher (me) asked the kids whose room they were painting, if it belonged to them, their parents, or even to monsters or dinosaurs.

Tanisha: What can we find in a monster's room?
Me: I have no idea, what do you think we'll be able to find?
Tanisha: What does a monster like to eat?
Me: hmmm, maybe gummy bears?
Kids: (mixture of screams and laughter)
Tanisha: Noo, monsters like to eat people (in a deep voice)
Kids: (mixture pf screams and laughter again)
Sarah: There's no monsters. (pauses in thought)
Me: yes there's no..
Sarah: There's no monsters in Singapore.
Me: (laughs hysterically) only in Singapore?
Sarah: yes there's no monsters in Singapore. And dinosaur's too.
Tanisha: (continues to talk about monsters and dinosaurs)
Sarah: excuse me, there's no monsters in Singapore!

Hehehe, yes, there's no such thing as monsters. The monsters in our lives are often self created. They could be gummy bear eating monsters or monsters that could eat you up. But Sarah teaches us, an important lesson, that there's no such things as monsters, live life simply, climb the mountains and enjoy the scenaries. And thank God you're in Singapore!
